I decide to write about child abuse because i was at the park and i saw this lady smacking her child around and cursing at her. For no apparent reason i look at the lady and told her what she was doing wasn't right. She looked at me shocked that i had told her something .So what is child abuse? According to the Find Law web site the definition is “Child abuse is any type of cruelty inflicted upon a child, including mental abuse, physical harm, neglect, and sexual abuse or exploitation. The specific crimes charged in instances of child abuse can include assault and battery. In many states, certain individuals and caregivers are required by law to report suspected child abuse.” Any adult can be a child abuser some of those who can cause child abusers are Fathers, mothers, siblings, other relatives, Childcare professionals, babysitters, Clergy, teachers, athletic coaches, Foster parents or host families of foreign-exchange students, Neighbors, friends, Strangers, and other people . There are different types of child abuse they are but not restricted to physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and neglect. physical abuse can include shaking, hitting, beating, burning, biting, slapping, Pushing, kicking, throwing Pinching, choking, hair-pulling, Burning with cigarettes, scalding water, or other hot objects, or Severe physical punishment, as well as any other physical damage to a child. Emotional abuse can be constant blaming or putting down a child, excessive yelling, and shaming.
Sexual abuse is sexual acts between an adult and a child which may consist of incest, any forced sexual activity, exposure to sexual stimulation not appropriate for the child's age. Such as rape, intercourse, sodomy, Fondling violating a child’s privacy such as spying on a child or forcing a child to undress, exposing a child to mature matter such as sexual acts and pornography, also exploiting a child to do pornography or participate in prostitution. Neglect is when a care giver fails to provide appropriate care for the child's physical needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical care; or a failure to provide for the child's emotional needs, such as affection, attention, and supervision. According to the help child website a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. Almost five children die every day as a result of child abuse.
What are the Effects of Child Abuse? There are many consequences to child abuse most which are bad. Child abuse not only affects the child but the family and loved ones as well. Children tend to behave much older than they truly are. Because of the traumatic situations they have live through they offer feel as though they are the adults. Abused children have a higher chance to develop drug and alcohol habits. Children who have been sexually abused are 2.5 times more likely to abuse alcohol and Children who have been sexually abused are 3.8 times more likely develop drug addictions. Nearly two-thirds of the people in treatment for drug abuse reported being abused as children. Also man those children who are abused are more susceptible to comity crimes. Children who experience child abuse & neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a
juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violent crime. It is estimated that 31% percent of women in prison in the United States were abused as children. Also About 80% of 21 year olds that were abused as children met criteria for at least one psychological disorder. This means that child abuse causes major physiological problems to abused children according to the child help web site. Abusing children will result in many horrible consequences.
How can we help? Everybody and anybody can and should help stop child abuse. About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children, continuing the horrible cycle of abuse. So we much stop this cycle. There are many ways to do so. There are simple things one can do such as helping out a parents that are under stress, as in helping out with the children assisting them with chores or activities they have. One can also speak and most importantly listen to a parent or child. We can also volunteer in programs that support those in need of help such as parental education, family counseling, and child safety. All these ways can help prevent child abuse. If you suspect that a child has been abused you can call 911 as emergency. You can also report any abuse to a Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline near you.
Great blog. I liked how you put the kinds of abuses there are and describe them in details. I didn't know there were three kinds of abuses. I agree with this and that child abuse is wrong and should be stopped. Is it hard to spot child abuse? I remember hearing on tv that this lady just smacked her kid ounce because he was misbehaving and they called the police and said it was child abuse. Do you think it is? Anyways great blog.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of kind of abuses going on in the world, and it's really hard to prevent them. It really sucks when it's especially with children involved it actually sad.In my opinion i think that people that know that they get angry really fast should take anger management classes or do something to help. Because it really sad for a child to get abused.Great blog.
